How To Change The Name Of Your Shopify Store

Shopify Aug 30, 2021

Your Shopify store domain name is essential for the appropriate branding of your business. However, it is a common occurence to want to rebrand after a certain amount of time has passed, or if your business is starting to take a new direction. If you run a Shopify-based online store,  you might have to change the domain name associated with your Shopify account. You might also want to change your Shopify store name.

Your Shopify store name is the name you assign to your web storefront when you create your Shopify account. This name is then used to dynamically create your Shopify-based subdomain. Every store has a unique Shopify subdomain that the store owner can use to access their Shopify admin dashboard and backend. For example, if the name of your store is ABC Pet Shop, then the generated subdomain name will most likely be abcpetshop.shopify.com.

When you are running a business, you might want to associate your Shopify-based sub-domain with a custom domain name (such as abcpetshop.com). This is generally considered a best practice as it makes your brand look more legitimate.

Can I change my Shopify store name?

Yes, you can change your Shopify store name. However, if you want to change the autogenerated Shopify subdomain, you will have to create a new Shopify store. While the store name can be changed in Shopify settings, the subdomain that you use to log in to your Shopify account is only generated once when the store is created and is unchangeable. When you change your Shopify store name, it does not have any impact on your Shopify generated subdomain or on your associated domain name.
